Surprisingly I never seen myself being a mom until I met my husband. I know many of you may look at me and think this is something I always wanted because it is effortlessly done but nope! The truth is I never wanted kids. However, when Rob came along he also came with this bright eyed, handsome little man. Who had so much personality and loved me so much! He warmed my entire heart. The way he cared for him and loved him changed my perspective on having children.
5 years into our relationship I got pregnant and had a miscarriage at 6 weeks. We were very sad but we managed to push through. The next year on my birthday I found out I was pregnant again. We of course was scared because of what happened before but nonetheless we were still excited. We made it to 6 months and 2 weeks before baby Riley decided she was through with my oven lol. Our premature rainbow baby was born 2lbs 0.6 ounces. Safe to say it’s something about the number 6. So the thought of me now having a 6 year old is pretty crazy. I consider this to be a lucky year for her.
I’m a big birthday person. Birthdays are really important to me. I feel like every day you wake up is a blessing but your birthday is and should be a true celebration. Riley’s birthday was November 30th and some would say I’m a bit extra but whatever! My husband and I booked her a weekend at the Kartrite indoor water park and resort, she had a pizza party in school and she went to build a bear and had a dinner with her family.
Riley’s photoshoot was the headache because she wanted everything designer. So of course we went “inspired” because who got that type of bread? Mommy searched high and low for outfit inspiration and then my good girlfriend said “Mean Girls”. So we ran with it, pleated skirts, cute tops and lace socks! It was a complete mission to make sure that everything was giving what it was supposed to give. But not for nothing it came out completely perfect!
Being a mom is a total reward. No, we don’t get paid and we don’t get sick time off. We rarely get a break and it is a job 24/7, 365. But the looks on their faces when you do something good for them or when they just randomly say I love you. Even when they just acknowledge that you’re the best mom/step mom in the world. It makes the job totally worth it.
So this is a salute to all the moms that will move mountains on a regular day and bigger ones on the birthdays. The moms that do it alone but still get it done. The moms that don’t have it but make the best out of the bad situations. As parents’ period we don’t get a metal and we rarely get recognition, So here’s to you all, We doing a good job!!
